Dr Bhavisha Jaiprakash | Clinical Psychologist
HCPC registration: PYL046940

I am a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with experience supporting young people, adults and families with a range of mental health difficulties. My therapeutic aim is always to provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you feel heard, understood and comfortable being yourself. I believe that building a trusting relationship is an important part of therapy, and I work collaboratively with you to understand what you are experiencing and what you would like to be different.
Throughout my NHS career, I have worked across a range of services, supporting adults within primary mental health services, people living with long-term physical health conditions, and women and families within maternity mental health services. I have also worked with children and families within CAMHS and specialist trauma and attachment-based services. I currently support young people and families within CAMHS, as well as working systemically with other agencies to support children with learning disabilities. When working with children and young people, I recognise the important role that parents and carers can play in supporting their wellbeing, and where appropriate, I may involve them in the therapeutic process.
I have supported people experiencing difficulties including anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma, panic, OCD, low self-esteem, perfectionism, social anxiety, phobias and difficulties with emotional regulation. I also have experience working with neurodivergent people, including those with autism and ADHD, and supporting people to better understand and navigate their experiences.
I believe therapy should be accessible and responsive to the person sitting in front of me, and I adapt the way I work, including my language, communication and resources, to meet individual needs. I prioritise working collaboratively and taking a strengths-based approach, helping you to recognise and draw on the things that are already there to support you.
My therapeutic work is informed by a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), systemic and behavioural approaches. I don't believe that therapy should be about fitting you into a particular model. Instead, I take time to understand your experiences, strengths, values and relationships, and think together with you about what might be most helpful. I recognise that everyone's needs are different, and I aim to tailor the work in a way that feels meaningful and manageable for you.
As a South Asian woman, I am particularly mindful of the many intersecting aspects of our identities and the ways these can shape how we understand ourselves, our experiences and the world around us. Our culture, family, relationships, gender, religion and other parts of our identity can all influence the way we experience difficulties and how comfortable we may feel seeking support. I hope to create a space where these experiences can be explored openly, with curiosity and without judgement, and where together we can work towards greater understanding, self-compassion and meaningful change.
