Dr Helen Bowen | Clinical Psychologist

I am an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, with experience supporting young people, adults, and families across a range of NHS services. I work with people facing many different challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and OCD, as well as those seeking support to make sense of their identity amidst significant life transitions.

Relational safety is at the heart of my work and I aim to provide a warm and supportive environment in which you can explore and make sense of your experiences and emotions without judgement. There are many reasons that can bring someone to seek therapy, in fact sometimes the first step of therapy can be working out just why you are there and what you might like to be different in your life. My aim is to work together with you to try and find some answers to these questions and ultimately take steps towards meaningful change.

My work is broadly underpinned by my training in systemic approaches meaning I encourage reflection on the relational and cultural context within which your current difficulties or circumstances may have arisen. I also draw from a range of other approaches, including narrative, trauma-focused, compassion-focused, and cognitive behavioural therapies. This means I can work flexibly and ensure the work is tailored to your specific needs and aims. I see therapy as a collaborative process and welcome feedback throughout to ensure you are getting what you need from our time together.

I understand that reaching out for support can be accompanied by a range of emotions, or perhaps a sense of uncertainty. I adopt a strengths-based and compassionate approach, and place great importance on helping you feel safe to bring your whole self into the therapy space.
